SYNOPSIS:

Lena, a Vietnamese woman in her early thirties, works in a busy nail shop. In an attempt to find acceptance within herself she seeks out eyelid surgery to open her eyes. "Good eyes are important, it's how the world sees you and how you see the world," says her influential co-worker. But it is Lena's interactions with her daughter, a stranger and a vision from the past that truly challenges her plan. Which eye will she open?

Eyelid surgery has become increasingly common for Asian woman in the United States. This short poetic narrative film brings to light a pressing issue that is fast becoming a norm in Asian American communities. Which is more important ... the opening of the physical eye or the opening of the spiritual self-accepting eye?

The film, Opened, challenges mainstream media's affect about how Asian woman see themselves and to awaken in us the importance our facial features have in linking us to our cultural identity, ancestral past and our roots. Can we change how we see ourselves so we can change the world?
